Our purpose
We report Australian migration developments with clear explanations and accessible links to primary sources. We distinguish reporting, source briefs, case watches, analysis and commercial material.
Sources and verification
Reports should identify the original source and the scope of verification. A source brief based on official catchwords or a register listing is labelled accordingly. We do not imply that a short listing is a full review of judicial reasons. Sources can change after publication; readers should check the live material before relying on it.
Status and dates
An announcement is not necessarily law. We distinguish proposals, consultations, registration, commencement and decisions. Article publication dates record when our reporting appeared; development dates record the underlying event. We do not backdate a new report to make it look older.
Cases and tribunal decisions
We cover selected publicly available material. An interlocutory decision, active case listing, remittal and visa grant are different outcomes. Case-specific reasoning must be read in context. We respect anonymity, suppression and non-publication restrictions.
Authors and legal review
Bylines identify the writer or organisational desk. Named legal review is stated only when it has occurred. Launch source briefs use the publication byline and identify their limitations. Drafting assistance may be used, but sources and substantive legal conclusions require editorial checking.
Commercial material
Advertising and sponsored content must be clearly labelled. Payment does not purchase favourable coverage, legal conclusions or an undisclosed recommendation.
Corrections
Contact the newsroom with the article URL, the claimed error and supporting material. Substantive corrections should be explained on the article with an update date. We assess requests against the source rather than removing accurate reporting simply because it is unwelcome.
General information
Articles provide general information and commentary. They do not create a lawyer-client relationship or determine an individual’s visa, review or court options. Individual deadlines and applicable law must be checked separately.
